History

Since its inauguration on September 19, 1999, the Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo has become an emblematic space. A commitment to sport that places the Comunitat as a reference point in the world of motorsport.

Since its was officially opened on 19th September 1999, the Ricardo Tormo Circuit has become a symbolic venue. Our commitment to sport has made the Region a true benchmark in the world of motorsport.Historia The Circuit has received many awards over the years, positioning it among the very best of today’s racing circuits. Recognition of this has come in the form of prizes hailing it as the best event organiser of major motorsport competitions with three Motorcycling World Championship prizes (IRTA BEST GRAND PRIX in 2003, 2004 and 2006), two best World Superbikes Championship awards (2000 and 2006) and one award for the best Truck Grand Prix in 2001 A circuit inside a stadium defines the idea behind the Circuit, which was designed so that spectators could follow races in full from the stands. The entire track can be seen from the 65,000 seats in the stands, meaning that fans do not miss out on any of the on-track action. The demanding track layout and excellent facilities have made the Circuit one of the nerve centres of motorsports. With 95% track occupation throughout the year with events, training sessions and different activities. In addition to the MotoGP World Championship, we also host the two most important Touring Car races, the FIA WTCC World Championship and DTM German Touring Car Championship, Formula 3 and GT’s, races,CEV Spanish Motorcycling Championship and Formula 1 winter tests. Every year the Valencian circuit is the venue for the MotoGP finale hosting an event that has become a reference for the 120,000 fans who fill the stands and the riders who revel in the technical aspects of the track
.It is, in short, a facility at the service of the huge number of Valencian motorcycling fans, which since its beginnings has seen over four and a half million visitors, with this figure endorsing the decision behind the project. But the objectives of the Valencia Regional Government cover a wider scope. The Ricardo Tormo circuit was intended to have a dynamising effect. It is not just a racing track. It is a place of gathering, a meeting point and above all, a place to have fun with family and friends. That is why the management at the Circuit organises complementary activities at each event so that our visitors enjoy themselves. EThat is how the Circuit goes beyond the mere scope of competition to become a true entertainment zone for fans. This initiative has taken the Circuit closer to Valencian society, which sees the facility as a leisure area for groups, with a wide choice of activities for watching and taking part in alike.

Sports promotion

The construction of the Ricardo Tormo Circuit of the Valencian Community not only responds to the demands of Valencian bikers. The Generalitat created a sports project with the aim of training young pilots. The Cradle of Champions in motorcycles and the Karting Champions Formula are the first opportunity for children to compete on motorcycles and karts. Having completed the learning process in different categories, vehicles and competitions, the pyramid is completed with the presence of Valencian riders in the Motorcycling World Championship teams, such as Héctor Faubel, Sergio Gadea, Héctor Barberá, Nico Terol, Adrián Martín… all of them raised in this project. Likewise, in motorsport, already in single-seaters are Adrián Vallés, Félix Porteiro, Borja García, Sergio Hernández, Marco Barba, Roberto Merhi or Álvaro Barba. They all follow in the footsteps of Fernando Alonso, who was linked to the Circuit for two years in its formation process. They are all candidates to achieve one of the objectives set by the Generalitat with this school: a Valencian pilot in Formula 1. Objective fulfilled for Roberto Merhi, from Castellón, who in March 2015 was the official pilot of the Little Manor F1 team
